Liquilife.com is really starting to come together

I’ve made some pretty blatant changes to the layout of the site. I’ve ditched the 3 column layout and went with a more standard 2 column layout. I’m finally happy with the basic structure. From here on it’s a whole lot of fine tuning and feature adding. I’ve added in some mood icons thanks to the offering over at http://www.wholenotherthing.com. I know, mood icons? Well, it does give the page a bit more vibrance. I will as well give the ability to sort all entries by mood in the future once I have enough entries to justify it!

I did it! Live webcam added to liquilife.com!

I recently picked up the new Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000. Of course, a nice shiny new great webcam is no good when it is just collecting dust. I had to put it to good use somehow. So I set off to seek out methods to send updated routine pictures to liquilife.com. After checking out several nifty programs that capture images from my webcam once a minute then uploading via FTP I decided that I didnt really want to pay for this solution. Then I stumbled on Stickam.com.

Stickam.com is a new website that allows you to stream your webcam through a nifty flash interface. Generally the site is focused on hosting a profile page that you can ‘go live’ with and have a myspace’ish type page with your streaming webcam. People can then zoom in on your camer and enter in your personal lobby and chat with you while streaming their camera to you assuming they have one. Well, this is great but I’m not interested in chatting with other webcammers. What I found to be a solution is the flash widget you can grab the html for and stick anywhere on any webpage with your live video feed while you are ‘live’. Perfect!

The flash widget is normally a skyscraper banner shaped rectangle with some advertisements under your cam etc. Well, with a little CSS trickery and modification to the flash code I was able to nicely hide 90% of the flash widget resulting in what you see in the top right of my page! Best of all the service is absolutely free. Using stickam’s flash video streamer is easy, I just hide it away in a Firefox tab and let it go, go and go.

Made some updates

It’s almost 3am right now. I totally screwed up my sleeping schedule… again. Having only 4 hours of sleep the night before I crashed at about 6:30pm. Waking up at 11pm I knew I was in for a sleepless night. Ugh, what to do now?

I finally got around to making some changes around this place. In my effort to keep the dust off of the table-tops I got of my ass and performed some needed maintenance on the sidebar. I also removed the reviews segment as I did nothing with it. If I review any items I’ll just make a posting, I’m all about keeping it simple. Gone is the “video of the moment”, in it’s place is a much more simple list of recent videos I have added to liquilife.com.

I also finally got around to doing some writing. How about that? I am writing a post to let you know that I wrote a post.

Pixelate yourself!

In a fit of late night restlessness I’ve added a new feature to Liquilife.com. The pixel board! Please be sure to leave your mark on Liquilife.com and Pixelate yourself. It’s easy and only takes a few seconds to do. The idea originated from the Million Dollar Page in which the creator created a grid with a total square area of a million pixels. He then began selling chunks of space for $1 per pixel at a minimal area of 10 square pixels. I’ve always thought it was a novel idea. Of course my pixels are free so there shouldn’t be a lot stopping you from adding your chunk of pixels.

Get busy and put in your shameless self promotion. You know you want to do so.

Go pixel board go!

The night before last I implemented the Pixel Board on liquilife.com which allowed anyone to pimp out their site for free on my site. Usually I am accustomed to 20 unique hits per day on my blog but it seems the pixel board drew in some attention. With the first full day of running the pixel board I had 170 unique hits. I know, this is nothing big, and compared with a lot of my other sites 170 unique hits would be rather abysmal but this is liquilife.com we are talking about here. A site built only to amuse myself and no one else. You could also say I really spammed the pixel board to try and get a lot of spots used up on it, which is true. This is no different though then any other time I’ve spammed liquilife.com for any other featured project which has never garnished this many hits.

If you haven’t had the chance to add yourself to the pixel board please go and pixelate yourself now. Just move them eyeballs to the right and you can’t miss it! Let’s get this board filled up and make it look like I have a lot of friends.

Updates to Liquilife.com - New Headers and Wallpapers

I added a few new features to Liquilife.com. The first feature is I’ve changed the header of the entire site. Well, it’s not drastically changed, but you will probably notice random images loading every time you visit a page. I have a collection of over 70 images that are randomly rotating as the header image. This solves that problem I’ve been having of trying to decide what header image to use when there were so many I liked. As an added bonus I’ve created a special page that lists all of the banners in the rotation since it’s likely you’ll NEVER see all of them. Just visit http://www.liquilife.com/gallery-headers to see them all. Please be warned that some artistic nudity are included in the list of banners, nothing raunchy though.

Another feature I added, and this is something I’ve wanted to do for a long while, is a collection of Wallpapers. Well, most are Wallpapers. The list includes other additional high resolution images that could be wallpapers as well. Any images added to the Wallpaper gallery are only the best of the best I stumble across on the internet so you are guaranteed to find something you like. Please make sure you stop by and take a look. All wallpapers are organized in a logical category structure to help you quickly browse and find one you want to download!
